The beauty about first drafts is that they don’t need to be perfect, but I have so far been incapable of moving on from a scene if I’m not 100% happy with it. Writing the beginning of a book is always exciting and leaves me feeling energised, but around the 3/4 mark is where it starts to get draining! What is your writing kryptonite? And what is the cure? Does writing exhaust or energize you? Why? I just write them in a way that feels true to that character and fix inconsistencies later when editing. They don’t feel authentic to me if I’ve planned them out on a document. In terms of characters, I don’t really plan them at all. If I decide that I like the story and where it’s going, I sit down and plan it out. I usually come up with a rough idea for a story and then start to write with no plan.
